Mercedes made a major step forward with their W04 in 2013, winning three times.
The car proved especially competitive over a single lap, allowing Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg to rack up eight pole positions between them. But early in the year the team had difficulty making their tyres last.
Nonetheless at the end of the year they had moved up three places in the constructors’ championship to second behind Red Bull.
